Selling a handmade Richard K. Smith traditional mountain banjo from Comer, Georgia. The original maker’s label inside the pot identifies it as Banjo No. 453, made in 2013.
I bought this banjo about a decade ago, and it has been surprisingly well traveled with me over the years. It has moved around the country with me and even made the trip to Mongolia in 2019. Despite that, it has seen relatively light playing use and has spent most of its time stored indoors.
This is a traditional fretless Appalachian-style mountain banjo with wooden pot construction, wooden friction pegs, and the characteristic smaller hide-head design. It is a simple, traditional instrument with a lot of character.
Overall condition is very good for its age. The wood and finish present nicely, with minor signs of handling and use consistent with a 2013 handmade instrument. Please see the photos for condition. The original Richard K. Smith workshop label is intact and clearly marked #453 / 2013.
I’m only selling it because I have another baby on the way and could use the money more than another instrument right now. I’d like to see it go to someone who will appreciate it and play it.
