On a recent trip to Deering Banjos, we were in the showroom looking at all the Goodtime Banjos. We loved the look of the bronze hardware on their baseline Goodtime. Right next to it was an Artisan Goodtime Americana with the Nickel hardware. We inquired on the option of swapping out the hardware to give it more a vintage look. Something that we seen players gravitate towards. Our rep, David Vega, suggested we also add in the Fiberskin head and a No-Knot Tailpiece and that tied it all together. We are honored to be able to offer this vintage inspired Goodtime to our customers moving forward. If you are looking for a warmer, deeper tone on a nice banjo, this is your option. If you are looking for a brighter tone, we also offer the standard model with the frosted top head. Either way, we have what you are looking for. The Nylon Artisan Goodtime Americana features a 12” rim, creating a stronger bass response and warmer tone compared to its counterpart, the original Goodtime and its 11" rim. The Artisan version of the Goodtime Americana boasts a rich brown stain, planetary banjo tuners, 5th string capo spikes at frets 7, 9, and 10, and a Midnight Maple fingerboard. We added a scoop on the fretboard for more of the plunky sound to our clawhammer/old time players. This version is a nylon string and so we asked Deering to add a 5th string nut and you don't see that very often on Goodtime banjos. So enjoy! Finally, we opted for a Skintone head that tonally sits between a Renaissance and a Fiberskin Head. This provides great tone that is warm and adds the plunky sound of a Nylon-style openback banjo.
We have more Custom versions of the Artisan series including 17-fret, 19-fret, Openback without a scoop, and the Goodtime two. We are sure to add more as the popularity grows. Please contact us with any other custom banjos you are interested.
