Abiqua
This is one of Doc’s banjos, the Abiqua. Harvested from the wood of an ancient Oregon White Oak tree that was lying on the forest floor. You can follow the small channels through the wood, which were created by the passage of time. Combined with other woods, including Wenge, Madrone, and Padauk, the tone of the banjo is outstanding, rich, and warm.
It has a 13-inch pot. The tone ring is Wenge; the fretboard is Wenge with brass side markers; the hardware is aged brass. It has a built-in tailpiece, a “Cathedral Bridge”, a custom dyed skin head, Gotoh tuners with black buttons, and Nylgut strings. The neck width at the nut is 1 3/8 in.; the string height above the 1st fret is 0.040, while at the 12th fret it is 0.125. Total weight is seven pounds.
The Abiqua is unique, a masterpiece, an heirloom banjo.
