Rare Tokai T-1200R-HF / Gold Star GF-100 HF banjo from 1984, made in Japan. Well crafted mahogany banjo with original 3-ply rim and sand-cast bronze flathead tone ring.
The instrument has been completely dismantled, cleaned and selectively restored. There is an old break visible on the headstock, which was repaired at some point and appears to be very stable. The hardware shows clear signs of patina and slight marks on the coating. There are also minor marks in the varnish/wood on the neck and resonator.
Despite these flaws, the banjo sounds phenomenal with its new setup. A new Remo head, a 5/8" Dotson bridge and GHS light strings have been installed. The head is currently tuned to G#, which gives the banjo a voluminous tone with plenty of depth and a decent twang!
