A very charming but strange creation indeed. This appears to be a 1926 Bacon and Day Rim assembly with a resonator that has had marquetry added to the center and subsequently refinished.
The neck is well, creative. Looks nothing like a Bacon and Day neck obviously, but it does have some issues that need pointed out. The fretwork was pretty sloppy, so there is buzz in a few places and some of the frets are loose. Really not too much of an issue on most of the banjo but it does buzz a lot when you fret on the fifth string.
The biggest issue to me is that the fret slots in this neck aren’t quite parallel to each other in several spots. I have tried to detail this in the photos.
Normally I’d part something like this out, but I am extremely charmed by it for some reason and cant bring myself to do so.
Comes in a cardboard case
