This 100% original "top-of-the-line" 1980 Ode Model 6500 gold-plated 5-String banjo is in extraordinarily nice condition because this banjo has had very little playing time. The gold plating is in fantastic condition with the only plating wear being a small 1/8" X 3-1/2" area along the very edge of the armrest. The original frets have no wear at all. The neck is straight and the banjo plays great. The only defects are a few small surface scratches on the back of the resonator that the camera didn't pick up. This is a no-excuses banjo. I discovered that the serial number 11-80-24 means this banjo was made in November of 1980 and was the 24th banjo built that year. The original case is included, though much of the silver-colored decorative "piping" on the lower edge is missing.
This is not a banjo I play or played. I am an antique dealer and I spotted this in the back of another antique dealer's van as he began setting up at an antiques show. He got it right out of a house that he cleaned out. It was clear to me that the banjo was put away a very long time ago and not touched. I was impressed with the immaculate condition, so I purchased it with the intent of re-selling it. There are two wrenches in the accessories pocket which might be original.
