Description
This was a special banjo that was produced for Gruhn Guitars and was made in Japan. The stands for George Gruhn, the T for Tut Taylor and the R for Randy Woods. These were quality instruments that play and sound great and today can be difficult to find. This is set up and in great shape and includes a vintage case which was original and also free shipping. This also has a Remo Pre EPA head which alone is worth $100 or more.
This has a thick maple shell and a mahogany neck and resonator with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has a Wreath inlay pattern and the headstock is inlaid as well. There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator.
The hardware is either nickel or chrome and is all original. This has a 2 piece flange and a 20 hole tone ring. This is truly a quality instrument and sounds and plays great.
Condition
This banjo is in fantastic shape. The wood has some fogging in the finish on the resonator and face of headstock which is pictured. The finish is in great shape with a nice gloss and basically no scratching. The fretboard and frets are basically perfect and this has spikes in frets 7,9 and 10. All of the hardware looks great with little tarnish at all. The Pre EPA Remo head is also super clean. This is a great looking banjo with a clean hardshell case.
Set Up
This is set up with a Pre EPA Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a Grover and the strings are Huber and this also is a super player. This banjo has a lot of pop and is set up to be a thrill to play. This is a really good example of a serious Vintage Japanese Banjo that is set up and ready to go!!
