Morgan Monroe made very high end banjos but in China maybe 20 years ago. These featured Gold Hardware and intricate inlay work and these banjos were stunning works of art. These can be sort of hard to find these days and the Appalachia was one of the higher end models.
This has a Curly Maple neck and resonator with an ebony fretboard. The fretboard has gorgeous vine inlay which really pops. I want to really emphasize this banjo is super attractive and is a work of art. The headstock also has inlay work and there is binding on the neck and resonator.
The hardware is gold and all original except for the armrest. That is an aftermarket armrest. This includes a Mastertone style tone ring and a one piece flange. This banjo is gorgeous and includes the original case.
Overall the banjo is in fantastic shape but there is gold worn off and some scratching on the back of the resonator which are worth noting. I have a pic of the resonator scratching in the pics. The worn gold isn't any kind of functional issue and a lot of the gold is still on there. The scratching is also purely cosmetic. Still the banjo is a really good looking banjo.
The frets are basically perfect and the fretboard is super clean as well. There are spikes at frets 7 and 8.
The original case had stickers on it which I've gotten off but some of the outlines are still in the outside of the case. The case is in really good shape regardless and is definitely sturdy and functional.
This is set up with a Remo Renaissance Head that is set to 90. The bridge is a Snuffy Smith and this has new Huber strings. The banjo is a professional quality instrument, at least it could be used in professional applications. This also is gorgeous and is clean, set up and ready to go.
