This is a cool old banjo I found last year and have really enjoyed owning. It was nonplayable when I first got it. My father and luthier Glenn Carson did the necessary repairs: a new stained hide head, setting the neck angle, Champion friction tuners, a friction 6th string peg, new nut, and custom Fielding 6-string bridge. It appears to have a mahogany neck and has a beautiful Brazilian overlay, fretboard, and veneer on the 11" rim.
The biggest surprise ended up being the fingerboard. When I first found the banjo it had an ebony board with frets and diamond inlays added later in its life; Dad and I noticed that there was a strip of ancient Brazilian rosewood underneath the same thickness as the headstock overlay.
This banjo really is an interesting piece and sounds wonderful with a low 5th string you can feel in your shoes! Comes with a new black/green interior Guardian hardshell bump case. A lot of love & talent went into making this banjo sing again. Asking $800. Thanks for looking.
