Unique Bacon style Bob Rock archtop banjo. Bob was a legend in banjo making, as his banjos were all hand made. He is listed in the Library of Congress craftsmen of PA. Research indicates that in the earlier days of bluegrass festivals participants were banned from playing Bob Rock banjos because they were much louder than any of the competition. Loud and built like a tank. Mr. Rock, unlike many of the modern makers, did't just assemble parts obtained elsewhere but was a true craftsman who made his instruments by hand, often down to the hardware.
This banjo was custom made at the request of the original owner to duplicate the early Bacon style banjos. It is in great condition and is made of what appears to be butternut wood. It's a one of a kind instrument with historical significance.
