Vintage Japan Alvarez Montana Five Star 5 string Banjo 

This is an ultra rare Japanese Alvarez Montana Five Star Banjo with an original Gold One Piece Flange.  This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This was the top of the line for Vintage Japan Alvarez and their Banjos.  This is a gorgeous piece that also has an original Gold Plated One Piece Flange.  This banjo looks great and also sounds incredible!!

This has a thick shell with a maple neck and a rosewood resonator.  The hardware is gold and is all original.  The armrest and tailpiece are both engraved which is a nice touch.  The back of the resonator has some pearloid in a pattern which almost looks like it is inlaid with diamonds!!  The fretboard also has some nice inlay work and the headstock has the Alvarez Deluxe pattern.  The tuners are gold and this has a new gold 5th string geared tuner.  Finally this has a full size Gold Plated Tone Ring which really helps give this some power!

This banjo is phenomenal and these are exceptionally hard to find.  This has a bright sound with some great volume.  This is not your run of the mill banjo at all and this one happens to not just have a One Piece Flange but is also super clean!!!  This is all original and also includes a hardshell case.

Condition

This is in especially good shape.  The wood and finish all looks great.  There is a bubble in the finish on the side of the resonator which is pictured on the Banjo Warehouse site.  Other then that the finish is super clean.  The fretboard is also clean with frets that look almost untouched.  The Gold happens to be stunning and almost looks unused.  This is absolutely an exceptionally clean banjo that was very well taken care of.

I want to mention that for some reason the 21st fret has the numbers 21 and 49 stamped into the fretboard.  I believe that was done in the factory particularly since it is at the 21st fret but I do not know what those numbers mean.  The case is also clean inside and out.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta as well.  The head is a new Huber Frosted head and is set to 90 on a drum dial.  The bridge is a Sosebee bridge and is set with correct intonation.  The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action feels great.  This banjo is a wonderful player with an excellent tone.
