For Sale or Trade: 1922 Weymann Banjo Conversion

Will trade for a White Layde or banjo with rolled brass hoop, antique fretless also interest me. A good Weymann is hard to beat just ask Jerry Garcia who played a similar pop off resonator model. Legendary instrument builder and luthier Andy Boarman always said that if you couldn’t find a good Gibson to convert, get a Weymann. The deed has been done with this one. What happened to the tenor neck, nobody knows.

This banjo can be used for any style. This one speaks well as a bluegrass banjo for hard driving or chromatic and it speaks especially well down the neck. It is loud and toneful and lands somewhere between a flathead and an archtop

Original tuners. All original hardware. Perhaps even the original head. Non original pop off resonator.

I couldn’t tell you who made the neck or how old it is but it couldn’t look more authentic. No truss rod but it has a little bit of beef so it is stable. Original dowel stick salvaged and used. Great action on this one. Couldn’t ask for more, really. This would be a great first banjo or travel/festival/jam banjo. I guarantee you one thing—in a jam, this thing will be heard. Just listen to the video.

It is listed in good condition—it has character flaws from honest play for nearly 100 years. The non original resonator has a repair to it. It fits just fine and really turns this banjo into a beast. Photos show a Fiberskyn head but I have a Remo on it now and wouldn’t change a thing. It comes with a Superior hard shell case which also has a few character flaws—it’s beaten up and has a latch missing but is also functional.
