This is a 5-string banjo conversion made from an orphaned rim, however, the 10-3/4 diameter rim and shoe hardware suggest it may have come from a Slingerland banjo. It plays well and has a nice bright sound.
It has a maple neck with a dual-action truss rod, adjustable at the heel - remove neck for adjustment. The fingerboard, headstock overlay, and heel cap are Ebano (a man-made ebony substitute). The inlays are engraved mother of pearl. It has Gotoh geared tuners, a scalloped bone nut, and a Vega style bone pip. The neck is natural with a French polished finish.
The 10-3/4 diameter rim is approximately 1/2 thick, has a Birdseye maple veneer on the inside and outside, and an ebony rim cap. The tone ring is a 3/8" diameter rolled and welded steel bar. The Fiberskyn head is new.
The banjo is strung with medium weight steel strings. The string notches in the nuts and bridge are V shaped so nylon strings can be used with no modifications. The scale length is 25-1/2. It has a 5/8" high bridge and the string action at the 12th fret is approximately 1/8". The neck is 1-1/4" wide at the nut and 1-7/8" at the rim.
