One of my hen's teeth! This is a very special Dobson Silverbell. Hardware is gorgeous, including original tailpiece, strikeplate, embossed silver bell ring, and hardware. Tuners are prewar Planets with original ivoroid buttons (Gotoh 5th) which function very well and look right on vintage banjos.

The pot on this is different from even similarly constructed ones Iíve seen, not spunover, but decoratively turned at the bottom and then carved (with a machine I assume) with vines and flowers.

The neck has a beautifully decorated dowel in high HCD style, colorful snail inlays very reminiscent of Adam Hurtís slothead. The peghead is heavily decorated with nickel silver leaves, wire and snail leaves. Other than the doublespun HCD I owned, this is the nicest vintage Dobson Iíve ever held.

Condition: some overlay repairs on headstock. Looks like there has been the very common neck break at the fingerboard/Headstock junction - very well but not invisibly repaired. The pearl moon at the 1st fret has fractured and been put back in. I didn't want to replace it but it could (should?) be replaced.

My luthier put an MOP nut in ebony to correct the scale length to 25.5Ē. Intonation is great now but itís not the prettiest cosmetically.

Sampson violin bridge.

Shoe style heel has a replaced pearl diamond.

Sound is ethereal and perfect. Action is just right. There ainít another like this one.

Comes in Hardshell case
