Here we have a 'One of a Kind' special top tension banjo made by now retired luthier Jim Yarboro of Gun Barrel City, Texas.
Constructed of curly mahogany, it's definitely one of the finest banjos I've ever had the pleasure of seeing and playing. I hope my pics do it justice!
It was specially made for the late Dennis Lucas, who was the first banjo player for (Bill's son) James Monroe when he struck out on his own.
Not only is the wood stunning and beautiful, the MOP inlay pattern on the neck is unlike any other that I've ever seen before. Just gorgeous!
It has all nickel plated hardware, 3-ply maple rim, old Steve Ryan 20-hole flathead tone ring, ebony fretboard, drilled and tapped brass one piece flange, brass top tension stretcher band, top tension bolts, 'Yarboro' engraved Presto tailpiece, engraved armrest, dual coordinator rods, special peghead design with an ebony overlay.
NOTE: The banjo will come as pictured with one exception, and that's the old Rogers 3-star hide head. It will be replaced with a newer Remo top frosted head prior to shipping. I'll supply the allen wrench needed for future head tension adjustments.
The resonator is not the typical heavy, solid top tension design. It's much more like a standard 'Mastertone' resonator in construction.
The case is a newer vintage style, a lot like the case that new Huber banjos come in.
