Many authentic minstrel banjos of the 1840s and 50s were built by individuals of small shops. Usually they never put their name on the instrument. The “Kentucky Juba” reflects these banjos and is my latest addition to my authentic reproduction series of minstrel banjos of the 1840s thru the 1860s that I have been building for the last 30 years.

The neck is built of one piece of premium tiger tail maple and is stained a dark brown. It has 5 ebony friction pegs and an ebony nut. The top edge of the fingerboard between the 5th string peg and the nut has a large “bracket” or “ogee”. The single ply maple rim is 12 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep with the calfskin head laying on the top edge of the rim. The rim has a premium tiger tail maple veneer on the outside surface with a thick rosewood binding at the bottom. The bracket shoes are handmade as well as the bracket nuts and tension hoop. All the metal parts are of brass with an old-time looking antique finish. As with all my minstrel banjos it comes with authentic real gut strings which will last you 20 years if taken care of. They are attached to an authentic style ebony tailpiece connected to the dowel stick with a real gut.

The “Kentucky Juba” (named after an original minstrel tune I recorded for Rounder Records) has a deep rich tone and plays very well. This particular piece is my first model and will be featured on my web site. It is priced at $1275.00 plus shipping. International shipping contact me country for the exact shipping costs at BobFlesher@aol.com or (352) 270-8734.

This banjo will fit into a standard 12 inch open back banjo case. I have a plush “Bump” case available for an additional $150.00. I do not take credit cards but will accept Pay Pal, bank checks or money orders. Personal check will need to clear before shipping.

Thanks for looking.
