A great set for a beginner! This banjo has the distinctive banjo sound with soft, melodic tones.
Included in this set are:
- Handmade padded soft case with storage pocket
- Set of extra strings and extra fine-tuning beads
- Metal and plastic finger picks
- Four books: Bluegrass Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus (CD included) and Clawhammer Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus (CD included) by Wayne Erbsen; The 5-String Banjo Primer by Joe Taschetta; and Banjo Case Chord Book by Larry Sandberg
This plank banjo was handmade by a player who travels the country playing her handmade banjo for large audiences. The body is lodgepole pine. The maker studied with a luthier to ensure correct fret placement on the fingerboard. Tanned deer hide was made into the head, the adjustable strap, and the flap attaching the strap. The maker designed and inserted the beadwork. Wood tuning pegs are held in place by pressure and wax.
Lightweight, it weighs only 3 pounds (1.4 kg). Dimensions are: length: 35 ¼” (90 cm); width at the head: 9” (23 cm); thickness of the head including the bridge: 2 ¾” (7 cm).
As a "natural" instrument, it’s more susceptible to humidity, temperature changes, and use, thus it'll need tuning more often. I’ll provide instructions on how to tune this instrument. It’s not hard, just different than a manufactured instrument.
