A.C. Fairbanks Senator or Electric model five-string banjo, made late in the year 1903. Originally manufactured as a 5 string, not a conversion. All parts are original except for the bridge.
Edit: "Many have correctly noticed that this instrument has an "Electric Tone Ring" and I have recently seen pictures that indicate that this is more likely an Electric than a Senator." Thanks for the input. I just added a link in "More Info URL" to a WORD document that gives more detail and pictures.
There is noticeable play wear on the fret board as it was owned by a professional musician from the early to mid 20th Century. Small dents in the rim, a couple of inches of binding are messing on the neck. It plays and holds tune.
The instrument needs some attention by a professional to reset the neck, in order to improve playability. There is no evidence of previous restoration or repairs. The banjo has been stored by the daughter of the previous owner for decades. Condition would be considered "GOOD" as it needs complete restoration to be a showcase instrument. However, only minimal restoration would be necessary to make it a good playing instrument in near original condition. The hard-shell case is a Bull’s Head brand from the early 1920s made by Felsberg & Co. (with the F & F trademark logo embossed on the back of the case).
