For sale is Williams Grangeville banjo #6, built in 2006 by well-regarded builder Will Williams, who later built the acclaimed Kenny Ingram model banjos. According to the profile of Will Williams published in the December 2009 issue of Banjo Newsletter (banjonews.com/2009-12/profile_...iams.html), Williams built 9 Grangeville banjos, 7 of which had Burlile tone rings. This particular Grangeville did not have a Burlile tone ring when I got it. The banjo currently has a Prucha tone ring, and it sounds very good IMHO. And, with its radiused fingerboard, the banjo feels great to play.
I have listed the Grangeville's condition as very good rather than as excellent for 2 reasons. First, there is some fret wear, not extreme, but definitely visible. Second, there are cosmetic flaws in the plating and finish. Specifically, there is clouding on the armrest and finish checking on the reso, and there are marks in the finish on the reso and the neck. I tried to show these in the pics. I don't feel the marks on the neck finish when playing.
Due to advancing years and arthritis, I have abandoned my (admittedly unrealistic) dreams of banjo glory and decided to sell most of my banjo collection. No trades, please. HSC included.
