George C. Dobson was the son of renound Dobson Brother, Henry Dobson. Our research has revealed that he was making banjos from 1870 to 1890, so we are dating this based on that information. This Matchless banjo has a slot head tuner, a new skin head, hooks from Bill Rickard and a modern bridge. It has a unique closed end tightening system. It has beautiful inlay and a metal clad fingerboard at the pot. It also has a turned dowel stick with a slightly obscured number stamped in which our best guess is 108. also stamped into the dowel are "Geo C Dobson's" and "matchless banjo". The two treble tuners are period but not original but the other tuners are original. The pot is not a perfect circle, but averages 10 3/4" and pot depth is 2 1/8". Scale length is 25 3/4. comes with modern gig bag.
