There is very little information on the Hotaka label. This banjo is an prime example of the early banjos coming from the Kasuga factory which also produced Gold Star, Alvarez, Iida, and the best of the "Masterclones" which were exact replicas of the Gibson Mastertones. It is quite identifiable by the type of rim and neck used. The tone ring weighs 2lbs 7.6 oz. and rings to a pitch just under A#. The sound is very similiar to the first series Gold Star banjos which were modeled after pre-war Mastertones. Set up by us, this banjo plays like a dream and would fit in any professional bluegrass band.
