Here’s a fretless gourd banjo in mint condition, hand-made by Barry Sholder of Dallas, Georgia, serial number 190. The neck is black walnut with a hand-rubbed shellac finish, a red oak fingerboard, pauduk peghead overlay, rosewood friction tuners and a Corian nut. The body is a canteen gourd that measures 9-1/2"x 4" with a 1-1/2” soundport, satin finish, a goatskin head, Romero-style tailpiece and custom strings. The overall length is about 35” from the tailpiece to the top of the peghead. The tone is loud and bright, great fun to play.
