For sale is a quality tenor banjo made by James W. Lyon. The serial number on the inside of the rim suggests that it was built in 2006. The walnut wood, Christmas tree binding and gold hardware remind of the Gibson Style-5 series.
- Tennessee 20 flathead sound ring (Sullivan) engraved with leaf motif on the outside
- Rim made of 3-ply maple and high-quality hardware (possibly also from Sullivan)
- Original Oettinger tailpiece
- Resonator with distinctive walnut veneer and concentric inlays
- Walnut neck with maple stripes and red decorative veneer stripes
- Ebony fingerboard with 19 frets and floral abalone inlays
- Black hard case
In all likelihood, this is a one-of-a-kind instrument, as I have no further information about the instrument maker. However, the banjo is very well made and in good condition. Slight marks are visible on the finish and frets.
