With their multi-ply "jelly roll" rims, light weight tone rings and sometimes less than stellar workmanship, these Gibson's 70's- early 80's RB-250's are generally not considered to be Gibson's pinnacle in banjo building history.
That said, every once in a while you get one of these that is really good sounding,,, despite itself!!!
This is one of those banjos.
An old repaired head stock crack keeps this baby really affordable.
I did have this banjo apart and the tone ring fit is superb. Maybe that's part of the reason it sounds so good.
