For sale is a very interesting 5 String Banjo. Thanks to Wayne Robinson of New Zealand, I have identified it. I believe it to be a Perl Gold Banjo built by Gropp Brothers of East Germany. I see no ID marks on it. It is very well built with some interesting construction. Look at the pictures of how the Solid Maple Rim is joined together. The neck is 3-piece Maple. Tuners are German Style reverse gear tuners. The inlay in the Peghead is reminiscent of some German instruments I have seen. It has a zero fret also like many European instruments and the Bone/ebony/Bone nut is also reminiscent of some German instruments. The fingerboard inlays are unique circle within a circle. Not quite as heavy as a Mastertone. The Resonator is Maple inside with Pie Pieces of Walnut outside. I have owned hundreds and seen thousands, but this is a new one on me.

I find the number 2 stamped on the inside of the circular resonator pad and also stamped into the Tone ring. A very beautiful instrument in Natural Maple Neck, Walnut Fingerboard and Resonator sides and back. Very nice binding on the resonator. I believe it to be all original with nothing missing. Last but certainly not least the banjo sounds great with plenty volume. I have many more pics upon request.
In summary this is a well-made middle of the road instrument. It is very uniquely and professionally designed and built. An excellent piece of work in excellent condition. I have it priced at what I consider to be a great buy because these are extremely rare, and I simply don't have any data on what the market will bear on an instrument like this. $500.00 + shipping. Check out the pictures and feel free to follow up with any questions you might have or let me know if you have seen another like it. For banjo collectors, this is one that is likely not yet in your collection. Thanks n Lord Bless, Frank
