This is a nice example of an 11 HC Dobson banjo with an ebony fingerboard and ebony headstock overlay. The banjo has definitely been played over the years and had a nice patina to the nickel plating and wood finish. The frets appear to be original, and are still in good shape. Outside of typical play wear, the banjo is in nice shape and plays nicely! The banjo is the longest scale length Dobson I have ever played, with a 26 5/8 scale.
The neck and heel are in good shape, and luckily have not been hacked on or modified over the years. The neck angle is right at 0 degrees and plays very nicely with the current 3/8 tall maple bridge and Labella #17 nylon strings.
The banjo is missing 1 original tension hook, but has been replaced with another period fitting hook. The tailpiece is a reproduction of a Dobson Star tailpiece. The banjo also had a recently installed medium thickness goat skin hide from Bob Smakula.
The general specs are as follows:
11? Nickel Plated Brass Spunover Ό Rim Walnut Neck Paddle Headstock 1-1/8 Width at Nut 2-1/8 Width at Heel 26 5/8 Scale Length Metal Friction Peg Head Tuners Celluloid 5th String Peg Ebony Fingerboard and Peghead Overlay Nickel Silver Fingerboard Extension Bleached Medium Thickness Goatskin Head Reproduction Dobson Star Tailpiece
