Restored L.B. Gatcomb no.5109 from 1892.
The destroyed by acid and time pearwood headstock and back strap were replaces by
macassar ebony and black ebony to keep the original look.
The enlarged tuner holes were plugged and re drill to accept correct time period tuning pegs. They work like a charm.
Neck was re finished and the dowel stick has being reset for a normal playing action.
All the inlays are original except for two little pieces on the headstock that were broken while removing the old headstock veneer. they were cut out of vintage shell pieces.
Original frets and fingerboard in very good condition.
The 11 inches perfectly round double spunover rim is in excellent shape with no modification.
All the bracket shoes, tension hooks and tension nuts, tension hoop are original and very well preserved.
New goatskin head.
26 inches scale.
New tailpiece made out of bone and copied of the correct time period tailpiece used on Fairbanks, Gatcomb and other vintage banjo builders.
Strung with nylgut strings.
This is the Standard model 25 with the "Little Gem " neck angle device to make small correction to the action due to seasonal changes.
A wonderful banjo restored to playing condition with a rich and real old time sound for another century of music.
Superior hard-shell case included.
