Morgan Monroe MNB-2 “Rocky Top” 5-string. One owner, bought brand new in 2005. Near mint condition other than a little normal pick wear on the frosted head, and the armrest could use a polishing. Great instrument with many pro features. 24 hole bell brass tone ring, 3-ply solid blocked mahogany rim, curly maple resonator, fancy wreath pattern inlay, nicely figured wood with two-tone stain, etc. This is a true bluegrass banjo with lots of volume and sustain. Growling lows and ringing highs. Nice looks and tone that rival many of the pro-quality banjos for a fraction of the price. Very well set up with a low and easy to play action and light touch. I have owned and played many high-end banjos (Deering Golden Era, Stelling Red Fox, Gibson Scruggs & RB-3, Wildwood Paragon, OME Juggernaut, etc). Truthfully this MNB-2 is not all that much different from the very best in tone (at least to my ear) and playability, and these are the things that matter. A terrific banjo for the average picker without breaking the bank. Includes a very nice stiff nylon soft shell padded case. $475.
