I did a Google Search for Ludwig 5-string banjos. It turned up 3,and this is one of them .It has the original tuners with a Waverly fifth to keep the old time look. The neck shows some weather checking,My guess is that it was installed the same time as that old weather king head. It feels like a First Quality neck with the old Ludwig peghead while the inlay is clearly Gibson. The heel had to be releaved to fit between the front 2 top tension bolts.Neck and resonator are walnut,as are all Ludwig's. It's rare to find a flange in the condition of this one,I've read that the earliest ones were brass. It doesn't have the Mastertone sound, but is just as loud, and at 8.2 lbs it's a joy to play standing up. At one time I had the John Hartford gauge strings and tuned it down to E,lots of fun. All in all,a very cool and unusual package. Strap included if you want it.Case too,of course.
