Hello, I've decided to sell my 1966 Baldwin Style D five string. It's a beautiful vintage walnut flathead banjo featuring the 'propeller' inlay at 22nd fret. This is serial number 277, which is the earliest D in the Baldwin/Ode database. Myron Koenig confirmed that this banjo was built in Boulder in January of 1966. It's in remarkable condition. There is no finish checking. Some of the highlights are- gold plated hardware, single coordinator rod and tone ring are gold plated, welded armrest, friction 5th string peg, ebony fingerboard, Ode tailpiece, and the original Lifton case (which houses the original gold plated drum key). Of course the Baldwin D was made famous in the hands of the melodic players of the 60s and 70s, most notably Bobby Thompson, Vic Jordan, and Larry McNeely. I love this banjo, with it's distinctive pop. It is just beautiful and it plays effortlessly. The neck is slender and just feels wonderful to play. I'm sure this is a subjective statement but I think this banjo is about as rare and gorgeous as a prewar flathead. Hard to let her go, but I'm selling to help fund my son's college education. youtube.com/watch?v=5FJgKQSTsHM Hope someone will give her a good home. Thank you, Ken
