1934 Gibson banjo conversion (original one-piece flange Style 1 banjo, not the earlier version with the bracket holes through the rim):
Thick 3 ply rim with Gibson USA replacement flange, serial number in rim and resonator match. Rim is nice and round with no delaminations and the flange has a nice slip fit that is not too tight or too loose.
Hopkins full flathead "old gold" tone ring.
Frank Neat prewar replica 5 string neck with Hearts & Flowers inlay on rosewood board, very little fret wear, V-2 tuners with amber buttons, RR spikes, pearl truss rod cover, perfect heel fit, low action.
The resonator is well worn but solid. One resonator thumbscrew location had to be moved as shown in picture. Also a 10" piece of binding on the resonator was replaced.
Finishing off the banjo is a McPeake pot metal tension hoop, a Prucha Presto tailpiece, Huber bridge, Taiwanese REMO head, and the other hardware is from a 1990's Gibson Mastertone including 2 c-rods.
Comes with a nice used Gibson Mastertone case with a working combination lock.
Yes the resonator has a few cosmetic issues but it is the original matching serial number resonator and is fine for a banjo that is all about playing. The playability and tone is simply AWESOME. This is a prewar that is the real deal. I should add that I don't want to sell this banjo but some financial requirements are making me reduce what instruments I have so the bills get paid, mainly a new roof on my house.
