For Sale: "Liberty" model Jubilee gourd banjo by Pete Ross

This is a historically accurate reproduction of a gourd banjo from the 1700s built by Pete Ross of Baltimore, Maryland. His company is called Jubilee Gourd Banjo. I am the original owner; I bought this banjo from Pete at the Maryland Banjo Academy in 2002. It's in mint condition; it's all original and has rarely been played. More information on this model banjo at http://www.banjopete.com/liberty.html.

The head is skin. The strings are gut. There are three long strings and one short. I believe the neck is cypress or heart pine. The overall length is about 39 inches. The string length is 26 inches but you can adjust the tone somewhat by moving the bridge. The label inside the gourd says "Pete Ross, Baltimore, Jubilee". There's no serial number.

It did not come with a case.

I will drive a couple of hours in any direction from southern New England to avoid shipping this banjo. If you are further away I'll ship it insured and split the shipping cost with you.

I'm selling it because I don't have enough time to play my regular banjo, let alone this one.

The list price is $770. I am selling this one for $550 (plus half of the shipping, if necessary, by UPS Second-Day Air).

Happy to answer any questions.

Pete Kelly
